WISDOM


Welcome to the new MCEIA W.I.S.D.O.M. Diversity Resource Page

Our goal is to have this website serve as a diversity resource to ALL members of MCEIA.
The acronym “W.I.S.D.O.M.” stands for the following:

The acronym originates from the Western Illinois University W.I.S.D.O.M. Cultural Issues Conference, which is an annual event organized out of the Office of Student Activities. The “MCEIA W.I.S.D.O.M. Diversity Resource” website will provide links related to career development that will hopefully be a useful tool to both the industry recruiter/human resource person, and the college career services director/advisor. The information will be outlined under each of the mentioned diversity areas.

Diversity Grant
The WISDOM Diversity Grant supports the MCEIA commitment of diversity within the organization and the area of experiential education by providing up to two (2), first-time minority attendees the opportunity to attend the annual conference and become a member of MCEIA for one year.

Founded in 1973, 9to5 has activists in more than 200 cities and members in every state.   The organization deals with issues of job problems, family leave, sexual harassment, job redesign, and other issues related to working women.

AAUW promotes education and equity for women and girls. AAUW is composed of two corporations: the Association and the AAUW Educational Foundation. Its nationwide network opens doors for women and girls and influences public debate on critical social issues such as education, civil rights, and workplace equity. AAUW sponsors community programs; publishes research on women, girls, and education; is one of the world’s largest sources of funding exclusively for graduate women; and fights sex discrimination in education.  Their website has a career center as well as a list of fellowships, grants, and awards.

The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars is an educational nonprofit organization serving hundreds of colleges and universities in the U.S. and other countries by providing selected students challenging opportunities to work and learn in Washington, D.C. for academic credit.  TWC also provides programming access to students with disabilities.  Recently the program announced 50 competitive scholarship awards in the amount of $8,500 for students with disabilities interested in working in the executive, judicial or legislative branches of the federal government.

Coordinated by the Coordinated by the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and the U.S. Department of Defense, this program is a recruitment and referral program that connects federal and private sector employers with highly motivated postsecondary students with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workplace through summer or permanent jobs.
