Awards and Recognitions


E. Sam Sovilla Educator of the Year Award

Each year, MCEIA honors an educator that has made significant contributions in promoting and sustaining the cooperative education and/or internship philosophy.

To be eligible for the honor, the nominee must be a member of MCEIA, and must be nominated by an MCEIA member.  The nominee can be a co-op or internship coordinator, program director, or faculty member involved with cooperative education and/or internships.

The nominees will be reviewed by the Awards and Recognition Committee, and approved by the MCEIA Board of Governors.

MCEIA Employer of the Year Award

Each year, MCEIA honors an employer that has distinguished itself as an active participant and supporter of Cooperative Education, Internships, and MCEIA.

The nominees will be reviewed by the Awards and Recognition Committee, and approved by the MCEIA Board of Governors.

Selection Criteria:

- Continuity of Program/Support Data
- Quality of Co-Op/Internship Experience
- Administrative Support
- MCEIA/State Association Involvement

Donald Hunt Lifetime Achievement

This award is presented to a person based on their body of work in cooperative education and/or internships upon the occasion of their leaving [retiring]. This person is to be recognized for outstanding contributions over a number of years, such as developing or enhancing a successful cooperative education or internship program and/or contributing to the development of the field.

MCEIA Best Practice

We know that MCEIA practitioners continually strive for excellence.  We also know that MCEIA is made up of innovative people who generate ideas that result in potential improvements or strategic planning.

Do you have an extraordinary process, activity or program which would has been highly effective and/or successful and that might assist other MCEIA members in setting a benchmark of performance?  If so, nominate yourself or someone else for a Best Practice Award.

Best practice is a management idea which asserts that there is a technique, method, process, activity, incentive or reward that is more effective at delivering a particular outcome than any other technique, method, process, etc.

If you feel that you or a colleague has developed a best practice, please share this with our membership by nominating yourself or a colleague for this award.

Successful nominations will include:

1. A thorough description/definition of the process, activity or program.

2. A thorough description/measurement of current performance of the process, activity or program.

3. A brief analysis of the outcomes of the process, activity or program

4. A description of how the process, activity or program is implemented

5. A brief evaluation of the results and/or description of how this process, activity or program helped meet predetermined goals.

MCEIA Student Scholarship Award

MCEIA provides two $1,000 scholarships to students who have completed at least one term or semester of cooperative education/internship experience [paid or unpaid] at a college or university represented by a current member of MCEIA.

Eligibility:

  • Students must be nominated by a member of MCEIA
  • Students must be enrolled in a degree granting program
  • Students experiential learning must have taken place between September 1 of the previous year and August 31 of the nominating year
  • We request that each institution, or employer send only one nominee
  • If you have questions about eligibility, please contact the MCEIA representative listed below.

Award:

  • The winning students will receive a cash award of $1,000
  • The winning students will receive a recognition certificate
  • The winning students will receive a complimentary membership to MCEIA

Nomination Packet Requirements:

  • Application Form
  • Student Resume
  • Student Statement
  • College or University Support Statement
  • Site Sponsor Support Statement

Student Statement ~ two page summary discussing the following:

  • Where and when the internship took place; brief description of the site
  • What projects did the student work on independently? On teams?
  • What new skills, abilities, understandings did the student attain
  • How has this experience influenced the student’s future plans or goals

Employer Support Statement ~ two page summary discussing the following:

  • The student’s work duties, quantity/quality of work, work ethic
  • The student’s creativity, initiative, original work
  • Recognitions or awards
  • Overall impact of this student in the work area; recommendation

University Support Statement ~ two page summary discussing the following:

  • The student’s involvement on campus and/or the community
  • The student’s integrity and character
  • The student’s leadership positions; organizations; awards; recognition
  • The student’s academic performance

Award of Excellence

The Promotion and Publicity Committee is pleased to sponsor the annual MCEIA Awards of Excellence contest! This is the eighteenth year of the competition. The contest was established by the MCEIA Board of Governors to recognize outstanding effort extended in promoting cooperative education and internship programs.
